I think we all can aspire to have relationships like Max and Honey. Sure, they have arguments and things aren’t perfect, but they both love each other with a deep sacrificial love. When their personal dreams, ambitions and hobbies are not in the best interest of the family, Max and Honey put their love and relationship first. This is true love – not always glamorous, but always dedicated and true.
My personal relationship life is more like that of Grace. She is a hopeless romantic, who is never in the right place at the right time. Like Grace, I’m waiting for the person of my dreams to drive into town and sweep me off my feet. I just hope my ‘Van’ doesn’t turn out to be a con artist…
If there was a sixth season of Wind at my Back, I think the show would have taken Grace’s emotional, yet impetuous love, and turned it into something deeper like Max and Honey have. Instead of a dream romance based upon good looks, wealth and exotic locations, I imagine Grace’s relationship with Van reigniting, but this time built upon trust and hard work.
Love takes a lot of work, and the real stuff needs daily investment. Wind at my Back gives us plenty of examples of how relationships, both romantic and platonic, make the tough times of life bearable.
This Valentine’s Day, let’s celebrate true love.
