Though L.M. Montgomery was hailed with positive reviews upon the publication of Anne of Green Gables, it appears there was some speculation as to whether a young 11-year-old orphan like Anne would be so mature in terms of her taste in literature.

Anne of Green Gables fans may know the stories of how Megan Follows and Colleen Dewhurst were cast in their respective roles, but what about Richard Farnsworth? The beloved actor initially took the role of Matthew Cuthbert because his wife persuaded him to. She loved the Anne novels as a child.

Colleen Dewhurst won two Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Candice Bergen’s mother on the hit sitcom, Murphy Brown.  Colleen was originally nervous about performing in the role, but later found it amusing when people were surprised that she could do comedy work – and do it very well.

The first question everybody asks when they hear someone is having a baby is, “Do you know if it’s a boy or girl?”  The second question is, “What will you name them?”  Whatever the reply, all parents answer both questions with pride.  But for the parents of little girls named Avonlea, they often respond with extra delight.

While reading the autobiography of Colleen Dewhurst (Marilla Cuthbert in Anne of Green Gables), I was continually amused by the stories she told of the world famous actors and directors she worked with throughout her career.  One of her most entertaining anecdotes came from her time on the set of the Academy Award-winning film, Annie Hall, with director Woody Allen.
