Anne Shirley is not alone in the list of favourite female heroines created by Lucy Maud Montgomery.  She is joined by Emily Starr – the lead protagonist in Montgomery’s other beloved trilogy, Emily of New Moon, which is also set in turn-of-the-20th century Prince Edward Island.  The series of novels was made into a television series that lasted four seasons in the late 90s – all four of which are now available at Shop At Sullivan!

The series follows Emily Starr (played by Martha MacIsaac), an imaginative girl who is left orphaned at a young age.  It is decided that her mother’s family will draw lots to see who will care for her.  When it is determined that she must live with her two aunts (Susan Clark and Sheila McCarthy) and her cousin Jimmy, Emily must adjust to an entirely new way of life.

Fans of Anne of Green Gables and Road to Avonlea will appreciate this take on Montgomery’s moving trilogy.  To take a look at the Emily of New Moon DVDs, click here.
