According to The Globe and Mail, an ice cream company called Cows Inc. in Charlottetown will be supplying the famous carbonated raspberry juice to people in the Dalvay area when the Duke and Duchess are visiting there on Monday. The company is planning to prepare enough cordial for 2,400 people, though they are not sure when exactly Kate and William will get to try it.
The Royal couple will be visiting Dalvay by the Sea on Monday and although raspberry cordial is not on the menu (the official menu, prepared by the Culinary Institute of Canada, will be released later today), they will have a chance to sample other kinds of cuisine in between their official events.
Anne fans will no doubt be curious to see what the Duke and Duchess think of the drink, seeing as how it’s one of the most memorable scenes in both the book and film. When Anne plays host to Diana, she mistakenly serves her bosom friend red currant wine instead of the fizzy cordial. Diana, not knowing the difference, consumes three tumblers of the alcoholic drink.
When Diana’s conservative mother finds her daughter drunk, she immediately blames Anne and forbids the kindred spirits’ friendship to continue. This prompts Marilla’s defensive quote (famously delivered by actress Colleen Dewhurst): “It isn't meant to be drunk three tumbler-fulls at a time. And if I had a child that was so greedy, I'd sober her up with a darn good spanking!”
