The Moving Melodies of Wind at My Back

Part of the reason why Wind at My Back makes such a lasting impression on its viewers is the melodies composed for the show.  Fans of Road to Avonlea might recognize strains of the theme music as slightly similar to one of Avonlea’s own themes.  Here is an excerpt explaining the music from the show, taken from a behind-the-scenes brochure about the making of Wind at My Back, available to Sullivan Insiders on SullivanMovies.com.

“When creating the theme music for Wind at My Back, composer Don Gillis worked from a piece that he originally composed for the Road to Avonlea episode “Momento Mori”, which is Kevin Sullivan’s favourite episode.  “We liked the theme so much that when we first started Wind at My Back, we asked Don to take the theme and turn it into a series of themes and sub-themes,” Kevin says.  “It became the heart of the series.”  The result was a charming melody that viewers quickly identify with the old fashioned sensibility of the show.

Don Gillis is a three-time Gemini Award nominee who has contributed his musical talents to several of Kevin Sullivan’s productions, including A Wind at My Back Christmas, Road to Avonlea and An Avonlea Christmas. He was nominated for a Gemini for his compositions for two Road to Avonlea seasons in 1994 and 1995. The talent he has brought to Sullivan productions is immeasurable.

Halfway through the production of Wind at My Back, composer Peter Breiner took over the job of composing.  He has also been the man behind the music in several Sullivan productions, including Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning and Mozart’s Magic Flute Diaries.  Working from Bratislava, along with a full orchestra, Peter continued to develop the unforgettable theme that Don created.”

Shop At Sullivan’s two Wind at My Back soundtracks are currently on sale for $6.99.  To see the CDs, click here!  And to find out how to become a Sullivan Insider and read the entire behind-the-scene brochure, go to sullivanmovies.com.

Thanks for your comments, everyone! We're so glad you're enjoying the show. Ceil, to answer your question, there were two Honeys because after the third season, the first Honey (actress Cynthia Belliveau) decided to pursue a different career path. Thanks for your interest!

Loved this show when I first saw it and love it just as much now on Bravo. Always good story lines and some solid character acting, Shirley Douglas in particular.Of course I admit to being nostalgic, having been born at the end of the Depression and having been raised in a very different Canada, and in some ways a better one. Thanks for this wonderful show.

I watched Wind at My Back a few years ago, and then it suddenly wasn't on any more. Imagine the pleasant surprise to find that is now on the Inspiration Channel. I love it and have recommended it to my friends, family and church family. It's just a feel-good show. Thanks, and keep up the good work. I'd also like to know about the cast members.

I happened to be up late one night and came across this series and wondering why I had never heard of it. I have been eagerly watching every week day as the adventures unfold. I love all the characters. I am wondering where all the actors are now. We need more good character building films, some of the things seem so old fashioned these days when anything goe.

I am hooked on this series, can't wait each day to see it. The writers and actors are superb. I forget about everything one hour each day, wish it was on the weekends as well. It takes me back in time like a child again. Thank you very much and God Bless for good clean priceless entertainment.
