The songs in The Sound of Music have yet to grow old, even almost 50 years after the movie’s original release in 1965. The film stars, once again, Julie Andrews, who plays Maria Von Trapp – a conflicted nun who becomes a nanny to seven children and, eventually, their mother. Her husband, Captain Von Trapp, is played by the great Canadian actor, Christopher Plummer. With classic songs by Rodgers and Hammerstein, including “Edelweiss”, “My Favorite Things” and, of course, “The Sound of Music”, this movie will stay with any child who watches.

The original Wizard of Oz, starring Judy Garland, is one of the most beloved films dating back to the childhood of Baby Boomers. But its imaginative plot, memorable characters and world famous melodies, including “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, makes this film a timeless story that should be in every child’s film repertoire.

Julie Andrews won an Academy Award for her performance as the charming and mysterious nanny, Mary Poppins, to two young children, Jane and Michael Banks. Set in London, England, this musical features both fun and moving songs, including the Oscar-winning “Chim Chim Chir-ee”, sung by Dick Van Dyke. In total, the film received 13 Oscar nominations.

Anne of Green Gables, famously portrayed by Megan Follows in the award-winning series by Kevin Sullivan, is a staple in any Anne fan’s favourite films list. The movie follows the famous red-head orphan through a series of humorous and emotional trials as she endeavours to stay at Green Gables farm with Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert.

The Princess Bride is a tongue-in-cheek take on the classic fairytale. With beautiful music by Mark Knopfler and memorable performances by Cary Elwes, Robin Wright Penn, Billy Crystal and Fred Savage (of The Wonder Years fame), this humorous adventure story boasts an all-star cast and an unending list of quotes your children will be reciting over and over.
