'Anne Girl' Behind PEI's Tourism Boost

There’s been a recent boost in Prince Edward Island’s tourism revenue and fingers are pointing at Anne of Green Gables as the reason. According to a recent article, nearly one third of the island’s tourism revenue from last year ($370 million) was generated by tourists coming to see the island because of Anne, specifically.  And this year, the numbers have kept growing.

Green Gables Part of New Phone App!

The latest Smartphone App has a direct tie to the history of Anne of Green Gables!  As part of Parks Canada’s new initiative to preserve our interest in Canada’s landmarks, they have made a special Heritage Gourmet App that has recipes from more than 80 historic sites across Canada – Green Gables being one of them.

PEI’s Harbourfront Threatre production, Anne & Gilbert, is coming to the island’s historic Green Gables on Wednesday, Aug. 10.  This play was inspired by the sequel novels to Anne of Green Gables and visitors to the house will get to see one of the its main musical numbers, “Island Through and Through”.

Open-Air Operas In Vogue

Perhaps Mozart never envisioned his operas being performed in the great outdoors, but the practice has actually been a long-standing tradition in England.  This June and July, music lovers will be attending “open-air” festivals all over the country.  Garsington Opera’s  outdoor production of Mozart’s "Magic Flute", for example, will take place on the beautiful estate of Wormsley, north west of London.
