A Career During The Depression

Imagine unemployment increasing to 20-25% nationally, natural disasters occurring at the same time (drought in the prairies), and thousands of people lining up for hours at soup kitchens. The 1930’s was not a time to pick and choose what career you wanted. When given any opportunity, you would take it. During the depression, any job was a good job.

Career Day

Every year throughout Canada, all the grade 9 students take a day off school to see what the real world is like. This is called "take your child to work day." About 10 years ago the Canadian government established this day for students to get a feeling for the working world and to find out what career they are most interested in.
