Kevin Sullivan’s Anne films may be the most well known, but over the years there have been several film adaptations of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic novel. In 1919, a Hollywood silent film version was produced and now, thanks to a couple in Bala, Ontario, it has been brought back to life.

Jack and Linda Hutton operate an Anne of Green Gables museum out of a home in Bala, Ontario that Lucy Maud Montgomery stayed in during summer vacations in the 1920’s. Part of their museum’s collection of Anne artifacts is a rare copy of the sheet music used to accompany the 1919 silent film version starring Mary Miles Minter as Anne. The film itself no longer exists, so using some rare production stills and the original score, the Hutton’s set out to recreate it.  Here is a report produced by CBC-TV’s Deana Sumanac to show you how they did it.
