Jonathan Crombie Takes on Atticus Finch

Colleen Dewhurst won two Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Candice Bergen’s mother on the hit sitcom, Murphy Brown.  Colleen was originally nervous about performing in the role, but later found it amusing when people were surprised that she could do comedy work – and do it very well.

In Memory of Colleen Dewhurst

On this day in 1991, legendary theater actress Colleen Dewhurst passed away from cervical cancer at the age of 67.  Anne of Green Gables fans adore her as Marilla Cuthbert, a role that she took in the last few years of her life.  But it wasn’t the famous characters she played that meant everything to her, it was acting itself.  For Colleen, acting meant “life”.

Felix King's Tin Star Orphans

While many of Sullivan Entertainment’s stars have continued to achieve great success in the film and television industry, it is especially exciting when they’ve entered the world of music!  Road to Avonlea's Zachary Bennett (top photo, center), who played Felix King, is the lead singer of an indie rock band called Tin Star Orphans and they are gaining notoriety as one of the most exciting live bands in Toronto.

Kyle Labine still remembers the lessons Colleen Dewhurst taught him on the set of Road to Avonlea.  By playing the small orphaned boy, Davey Keith, who came under the guardianship of Marilla (Dewhurst), Kyle was able to work with one of Canada’s greatest theatre actresses when he was only seven years old.
